Research Centre of Energy and Environmentally Clean Technologies
Address: Vilniaus st. 141, LT-76353 Siauliai, Lithuania
The objectives of the Centre are to conduct environmental and energy efficiency research, to use the information gained to improve the content of the studies, to cooperate with similar centres of other universities, to organise scientific events.
The research organised by the Centre involves cooperation of Šiauliai University scientists from the Faculties of Technology, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Informatics, Faculties of Social Sciences, Šiauliai Municipal Environmental Research Laboratory, the Faculty of Design and Technology and the Faculty of Chemical Technology of Kaunas University of Technology, the Institute of Environmental Engineering.
The employees of the Centre organise scientific conferences, conduct research projects based on the orders by Šiauliai and other municipalities and enterprises, make annual presentations at scientific conferences. The research results are used to develop the scientific production: a doctoral thesis was prepared and defended; six inventions were created and patented in Lithuania, one of which was registered with the European Patent Office. Besides, articles are published in the scientific journals.
Research equipment is assembled in the Center. A lot of equipment is designed and constructed on its own, for example, an original vacuum equipment for the acceleration of penetration of chemical solutions in the materials, laboratory equipment for mechanical softening of clothing materials by shearing, mechatronic devices for testing of properties of materials. New equipment was demonstrated in the national exhibitions.
The co-workers of the Center give lectures for the bachelor and master students, they take part in the dissemination of scientific knowledge, constantly advise businesses, organisations and citizens on the issues of energy efficiency. They also developed scenarios for educational video clips focusing on environment protection and energy saving themes (www.ekosiauliai.lt - video). The Centre publishes the scientific ”Journal of Young Scientists“ and enables young scientists (master students) to use the Centre's equipment to perform experiments.
Since 2012 the Centre has been carrying out the project “Development of Renewable Energy Resources and Improvement of Environmental Conditions“ (http://eneco.su.lt). The aim of the project is to create favourable conditions for the development of renewable energy resources business and improvement of environmental conditions in the Lithuanian-Latvian cross-border area.
Most active employees of the Center are associate professors of Šiauliai University: Kazys Kazanavičius, Jūratė Sitonytė Janė Ščiukaitė, Mykolas Pelikša, Leonardas Buivis, Ramunė Klevaitytė, lecturers: Aurelija Pelanskienė, Robertas Klimas, Dalia Mikučiauskienė, Meilutė Jarašūnienė, professor of Kaunas University of Technology Vitalija Masteikaitė and her doctorants, associate professor Kęstutis Beleška. Research work in the Centre is carried out of by master students of the Technology and Natural Science Faculties.
