The traditional Feast of Assumption took place in Šiauliai University Botanical Garden on August 15, 2015. The Feast is well liked among Šiauliai citizens and city guests as it full of memorable moments in the beautiful nature’s resting place.
At the beginning of the Feast, the Pastor of the St. Apostles Peter and Paul's Cathedral, Egidijus Venckus blessed all participants and the Feast itself. The Rector of Šiauliai University, Donatas Jurgaitis, the Vice-Mayor of Šiauliai, Stasys Tumėnas and the director of the Botanical Garden – Asta Kllimienė also welcomed the guests.
The participants familiarized themselves with the new-look Botanical garden as well as plant collections. The exposition of blooming plants of the Lithuanian and Latvian botanical gardens, also, the works of folk artists from various ethnographic regions of Lithuania (Žemaitija, Aukštaitija), hunting trophies, the exposition of “Aušra” museum “Lazda turi du galu” were presented.
The guests were able to buy various herbs, honey, sweets, Baristos’ bread products, teas, ecological oil, folk-art works, decorative plants and fruit trees.
The musical program was of exceptional cheeriness and diversity. The following ensembles and bands attracted the participants of the Feast: Šiauliai University Folklore Ensemble “Vaiguva”, folklore ensembles from Latvia, youth bands from Šiauliai. The most lively members’ interested was expressed in Vilnius percussion band “Afrikos būgnai” (“The African Drums”).

I would like to express my gratitude to Šiauliai Rotary women club “Harmonija” (“Harmony”) for having such beautiful paths and the possibility to renew the garden. Many thanks to the University and Šiauliai city municipality for support too. We, the Botanical Garden people are the part of our community; we appreciate our city and are very excited to share the beauty of nature and our love with other people”, said the director of the Botanical Garden, A.Klimienė during her welcome speech.
This was the ninth annual Feast of Assumption held in Šiauliai University Botanical Garden.
