On February 18 a valuable gift of Kent State University and Lithuanian emigrants was presented to University Library – collections of four persons collected in the Department of Special Collections and Archives of Kent State University. This shipment is the result of cooperation agreement signed on June 9, 2011 between Kent State University and Šiauliai University. The first shipment arrived in autumn 2015 and on February 10, 2016 one more shipment reached Šiauliai containing 300 Lithuanian books and periodicals published in the USA in 1894-1977.
Lithuanian collections have been collected in Kent State University Library since 1971 and considering their volume they take the third place after Greek and Romanian preserved funds. The collections gifted to Šiauliai University Library is just a small part of rich Lithuanian collections. The documents of four persons have been received: Dr. Domas Jasaitis, prel. Francis M. Juras, the economist, journalist Dr. Jack Stukas and the lawyer, chairman of Lithuanian Joint Organisations Committee of West Pennsylvania Edward A. Schultz. All collections reflect activities of American Lithuanians in historical development of Lithuania and the USA. Dr. D. Jesaitis and prel. P. Juras are related to Šiauliai region: the first one worked and lived in Šiauliai, the second person was born in Bridai (Šiauliai district).
During the presentation the Director of Department of International Programmes and Relations Regina Karvelienė read the greeting of Ingrida Bublys, the Honorary Member of Šiauliai University, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Ohio State. Moreover, video greeting by Kent State University Library was showed.
